SoS Weekly Jams #1

Week One: Zigzagging to Spain

This week, we start our playlist in France and we end it in Spain. We’re not taking the short road. To go from Juniore’s yéyé garage rock to Hidrogenesse culinary choir, we hip-hop our way through Poland, where Bownik spray paints walls, and through France, where Khadyak demands solutions, and rightly so. We stop in Berlin to hear scandalous legend King Khan curse and strongboi (a.k.a. Alice Phoebe Lou) charm. And we cross the UK, catching up with pop veterans Cornershop and sharing Jerskin Fendrix’s lyrical angst. We go up to Scotland for a haircut with “young, hard and handsome” Walt Disco. Are we done yet? There’s more! A (dancing) step into Italy with cosmopolitan Joan Thiele, then back to France, with electro darlings Dopamoon, psychedelic Marietta and Rubin Steiner’s killer tribute to women in rock and roll. A short stop in Portugal for a bossa-flavoured song out of Lina d’Agua’s 13th album and off we go to Zimbabwe, where American DJ Captain Planet introduces us to singer Shungudzo.

And here we finally are, safely arrived south of Madrid, enjoying the empanadilla festival in Mostoles.

Every Friday for Summer of Solidarity, the Euradio team picks 15 cool tracks out of its recent airing list to showcase the best of what European sound has to offer.
